Mindset – Think Business, Or Persih

Ok, let’s drill right down to the pulp where the blood really flows. The reason why most people fail in social media marketing, is because they think social media is a place where they are supposed to socialize themselves to death. You know, make connections, make friends, “network” and meet people. And that’s right of course, it just does not stop there.

Let me explain.

There is an interesting crowd out there, that has been influenced by movies like “The Secret” and other mumbo-jumbo, that believes that if you “give to the universe” the universe will give back to you. Or some hocus-pocus like that.

The premise is true. There is a law that is called the law of reciprocity. You give (you provide value), and you will receive in return. But the money won’t drop in your lap because the darn universe decides you are such a nice person and great conversationalist.

As a matter of fact, giving – in order to receive – has stood the test of time. It’s called a business and is not a new concept. Duh!

May I ask you a question? Do you – in all honesty – believe there is something unethical about that?

The fact is, you have to promote yourself and your business, and you will ultimately have to use the tools and techniques (and they are so easy to implement) that will do for you what is your God-given right: You will not only give, but you will also receive.

As long as you have a problem with receiving, guess what: You don’t make much money. If you are a person that can not even relate to what I am writing about here, congratulations. You probably have a mindset that will help you succeed.

But there ARE so many…kind of wishy washy people out there using esoteric language and seemingly having
altruistic motives.

Or almost.

If they truly had altruistic motives, they could at least call it a day and make altruism their new hobby. But they claim to be online-marketers and they claim to want to help their families reach a better life-style and they claim to want to become a success. And then? Guess what. Just talk, no action.

The reasons for this could be manifold. One is what is referred to as “fear of success”. They don’t really believe that they can be successful so they never start to monetize their business.

But more importantly and more frequent, they honestly procrastinate too much, and they have the wrong mindset. They are in all seriousness waiting for some sort of reward that “the universe” will provide for them if they just use facebook to crawl over people long enough. When all they really have to do is provide value, put an opt-in box on their website, create a blog and have useful (!) stuff to buy, treat people with integrity and….drive traffic to their blog using twitter and other vehicles.

Another VERY important reason, is a feeling of embarrassment that they feel when they are supposed to promote themselves. As mentioned in the video, T. Harv Ekker has put together what he calls the “Wealth Files” in his book “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind”. One of the files discusses that successful people simply do not have a problem with self-promotion or promotion in general. They don’t even have a problem with people promoting stuff to them. The are intrinsically interested in whether or not the stuff that is being promoted to them could possibly help them, and they are taking a more curious stance. They don’t stick up their nose at anyone, and they don’t think that promotions are somehow disgusting. When they promote something themselves, they are proud, because they believe they are bringing value to the market-place and that they are helping people. And so on.

Other than that I enjoyed watching “The Secret” a lot for the warm and fuzzy feelings alone.

So in closing, let me quote someone (If only I could remember who it was?):

The main-thing is to keep the main-thing the main-thing.

Now it’s your turn, because I really want to know what you think.
