Being Part Of A “Tribe” = Sucked Into The Vortex Of Failure?

Social Media – So much fun!

Or is it?

Simply put and oversimplified as it is my nature, the crowd out there at facebook and the twitter-universe, can be broken down into two categories, both of them equally unsuccessful.

The first category is the “amiable” personality-type, who is out there with a basic misconception of what social media marketing is all about. They love to socialize, but they have never really added that touch of professionalism to their business. They don’t have a blog, they don’t capture leads, they are out there to help, and they are hoping for some reward. Some day, somehow. You can see their adds float by in your facebook-account, day in and day out.

The second group is the group of spammers and scammers, or let’s at least call them lazy people. They have 5000 twitter-friends who they insult with a never ending flow of tweets, they read something like this:

“Donald Trump Network Home Business is the biggest thing to hit the Internet.” (link).

You get the idea.

On a more serious note. There are many tribes out there, and especially there are tribes that are interested in learning how to make money on social media. And the third group (I said there is only two – I lied) actually isn’t doing too shabby. They invest in courses, and they finally understand that there is actually not a “magic key”, but a structure to this game. Add a few guiding philosophies, people skills and monetisation-strategies to this, and you can actually REALLY make money here. Yes, we can!

If only, they were to take action.

The big danger of social media, is the “comfort of your own tribe”. (If you missed it, there is a book by Seth Godin by the same name that is….totally en vogue!!).

And within this context, we find warmth, comfort, people to cheer us on. But it’s mind-candy and all no good, if we just don’t take action on it.

One of the reasons, why we are seeking for tribes, is because we want to get access to the secrets, that is we want to become part of the “inner circle”, feel a sense of inclusion. And this is where things start to go right – or terribly wrong.

Once this chore-need is satisfied, many of us just stop dead in our tracks. We have the “mind-candy”, the validation, the warmth, the leadership and even the secrets. And now? Now what. They don’t take action on it. Don’t be that person. Don’t just whip out your credit-card to acquire the knowledge. Take action. Stop deluding yourself.
